Setting Up Payments

What You'll Need to Set Up Your Stripe Account (for Payouts):

Updated over 3 weeks ago

To sell tickets and receive payouts for your event on WASTA, you'll need to connect or create a Stripe account. Stripe is our trusted payment processor that handles all secure transactions. This ensures you can accept various payment methods and receive your event revenue efficiently.

Stripe is required by financial regulations to verify the identity of businesses and individuals using their platform. Having the following information ready will make this process quick and seamless:

Your Business Information:

  • Legal Business Name: The official registered name of your business or organization (e.g., "XYZ Inc.," "Jane Doe Sole Proprietorship," "ABC Non-Profit Society").

  • Business Address: Your physical street address in Canada. Please note: A P.O. Box is not accepted as a valid business address.

  • Business Type and Structure: Stripe's verification requirements vary slightly based on your business type. Be ready to specify if you are:

    • An Individual/Sole Proprietorship

    • A Corporation (e.g., Inc., Ltd.)

    • A Partnership

    • A Registered Charity (with CRA Registration Number)

    • A Non-Profit Organization

  • Tax ID / Business Number:

    • For Corporations, Partnerships, Publicly Traded Companies: Your Registry ID, Corporation Number (7-digit number), or Québec Enterprise Number (NEQ) (10-digit number). Any one of these is acceptable.

    • For Registered Charities: Your 15-character Canada Revenue Agency program account number (the program identifier must be "RR").

    • Note: Sole proprietors usually use their Social Insurance Number (SIN) for individual verification, but this is handled in the personal details below.

  • Business Phone Number: A valid phone number for your business (required for all business types except individual entities and sole proprietorships).

  • Website URL (Optional but Recommended): If your business has an existing website, providing its URL can help Stripe verify your business activity.

Personal Information of Account Representative/Owner:

  • Full Legal Name: The name of the individual who will be the primary contact and legal representative for the Stripe account. This must match your government-issued ID.

  • Date of Birth: Your full date of birth.

  • Email Address: Your primary email address.

  • Home Address: Your personal residential address.

  • Government-Issued ID: You may need to provide a scan or photo of a valid Canadian government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver's License, Passport). This is for identity verification.

  • Selfie (for identity verification): In some cases, Stripe may request a live photo of yourself to compare with your ID.

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN): For individuals and sole proprietors, your SIN may be required for tax reporting purposes.

Bank Account Information for Payouts:

  • Bank Account Number: The full account number for the Canadian bank account where you want to receive your payouts.

  • Transit Number: The 5-digit transit number of your branch.

  • Institution Number: The 3-digit institution number for your bank.

  • Account Holder Name: The legal name on your bank account. This must match your business's legal name (for companies/partnerships/non-profits) or your individual/DBA name (for sole proprietors/individuals).

  • Proof of Bank Account (if requested): In some cases, Stripe may ask for a bank statement or a void cheque to verify account ownership. Ensure any submitted document clearly shows the account holder's name and account number, and is from within the last year (or 6 months for statements).

The Stripe Onboarding Process:

Once you begin the event creation process on WASTA, you will be guided through a secure connection to Stripe to set up your payment account. This process is typically quick, but having all the above information ready will ensure there are no delays in getting your event's ticket sales up and running.

Important Notes:

  • Accuracy is Key: Ensure all information you provide is accurate and matches your official documents and registrations. Inconsistencies can cause delays in verification.

  • Security: WASTA and Stripe prioritize the security of your financial and personal data. All information is handled with advanced encryption and strict privacy protocols.

  • Verification Time: While usually fast, verification can take a few business days if additional documents are requested by Stripe. Your ability to receive payouts and accept payments may be paused if information is not provided by Stripe's deadlines.
